The U11 team once again proved that there is strength in depth in the squad as the team made light of some key absences to record their 5th victory of the season against Bromyard.
Missing 6 or 7 regular players, and despite Captain Ryley losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the batting was solid, losing only 7 wickets against some faster bowling than usual. In a total of 278 for 7, there’re were several notable performances; Captain Ryley, new boy Rhys and U9 starts Albie and Fraser (both making a step up from U9) were all not out; 4s were hit by Levi, Austin and Lucas, and Daisy starred at the end with 6 not out. Work still needs to be done on calling for runs, but overall the technique was great especially from the U9; obviously well coached by Master Batter Andy Rogers.
Bromyard appeared to be confident about chasing 279 to win at the start, but little did they know what was to come. In a disciplined display of accurate bowling, great fielding and overall teamwork, B&L manged to take 17, Yes! SEVENTEEN Bromyard wickets, restricting them to 186. Albie (I’m abetter bowler than my Dad) Rogers led the way with 6-6, including a hattrick, 5 bowled. There are unsubstantiated rumours that he was taught to celebrate his wickets by the First XI captain, but 6 wickets is not to be sniffed at. Highlight of these wickets was a fantastic catch at cover by Daisy. Daisy (the U11 answer to England's Sophie Ecclestone), Ryley (Bananaman) Bethell and Austin (I feel the need for speed) Healey I mean Noble all took 2 and Isaac, Fraser, Jess and Rhys each took one. Levi’s fielding was once again exemplary and both he Lucas and Aidan bowled well without success, both bowling maidens. Kudos to debutant Rhys for affecting a run out long before “Over” was called and the batsman had walked out of his crease to speak to his partner. Thanks to Aidan and Captain R for sharing the wicketkeeping duties more than competently.
Onwards and upwards, Gang! Dales next! Bring it on.
