Luctonians U13 (83-8) beat Bartestree U13 (63 all out) by 20 runs
Bartestree lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. The bowling was shared around the team and early on it was excellent, with some accurate bowling restricting the Lucs batsman and taking regular wickets. One of their openers batted really well and retired on 30 not out, but wickets fell at the other end and at the halfway point Lucs were 41-6 - with Miles Anderson (1 wicket) and Will Beaumont (3 wickets) in particular bowling well. We weren't quite able to keep the accuracy and menace up through the whole innings, and the Lucs lower order was able to scramble to 83-8 after their 20 overs. Well done to Thomas Norman who picked up his first wicket of the season.
With a full side out we would be confident to chase 84 every week, but with a number of batsman missing again it was going to be tough. The two opening Lucs bowlers were very good, bowling accurately for the most part and at good pace, with a left and right arm combination. Ethan started well striking two boundaries but was then bowled by a ball that jagged back off the dry surface. The pitch continued to trouble us, with uneven bounce and lateral movement, which meant that wickets continued to fall regularly. We kept ahead of the run rate but as batsman continued to fall we were never quite on track. Will Beaumont top scored with 14 but no-one else made double figures and we were ultimately bowled out for 63 to lose by 20 runs.
That brings our season to an end - a shame to lose a few, but overall a really successful season which saw a lot of development and some great performances. We will also try and finish off with one more friendly before the end of season awards on 2nd September.
Thanks to Nick for umpiring, Richard for scoring and Carrie for helping clear away all the teas at the end.
