BLCC Women's Indoor League (8th March)

Upthetree

Bartestree’s first game of the day was against Brockhampton. Bartestree opened the bowling strongly, with wickets shared across the attack from Tharindi, Sonal, Annie, Caroline and Carly. Accurate bowling kept wides and no balls to a minimum, while tight fielding helped contain the Brockhampton score. Carly and Caroline both took excellent catches to cap off a disciplined bowling performance.

Annie and Michelle opened the batting confidently against some strong opening bowlers. Karen and Caroline kept the scoreboard ticking over with well-placed shots, making good use of the walls to find scoring opportunities. Batting as the final pair, Tharindi and Carly raised the tempo with a flurry of runs, combining a variety of attacking shots with sharp running between the wickets. Carly struck a superb four and helped produce a fantastic high-scoring final over. Despite the strong effort, Brockhampton narrowly took the win.
Best performance with bat and ball: Caroline.

Between matches the team enjoyed a welcome refuelling stop at Debs, complete with delicious bakes from Saku. It was a great chance to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay and talk tactics ahead of the next game, amongst many other things!

Kington proved formidable opponents in the second match of the day. With several county players in their side, they showed their strength with both bat and ball.

Tharindi made an immediate impact with the ball for Bartestree, taking a wicket in the first over. Although Bartestree’s bowlers delivered accurate spells and the fielding remained sharp, it was difficult to contain Kington’s powerful hitters, who made the most of the shorter boundary at today’s venue, Cathedral School. Highlights in the field included Karen producing a run-out off her own bowling, wickets for Saku and Carly, and a brilliant low catch from Tharindi.

Kate and Karen opened the batting positively, finding runs with well-placed shots off the walls. Michelle hit a fantastic six, but Kington’s fast, accurate bowling and sharp fielding limited Bartestree’s scoring opportunities. Despite the pressure, Bartestree showed great resilience, staying positive and willing to take risks. That spirit was perfectly demonstrated by the final batting pair, Carly and Tharindi, who scored well with a range of shots and quick running between the wickets.

Kington took the win, but Bartestree once again played with fantastic teamwork and an amazing team spirit.
