2nds win at last in heroic finish at Brock

We set off to an overcast Brockhampton today. With the skipper missing and a new master at the helm, we were apprehensive but confident.

Lee, winning the toss, put the opposition in to bat. Our openers, Dominic and Ethan, bowled the best spell I’ve seen from a 2s frontline attack. 25 runs from 12 overs against some very accomplished batsman. Dom finally taking a brace and Ethan snagging one. But for one of their players smiting 45 off 14 balls, their bowling figures would have been stupendous. Tim finished with two wickets, Hollie was wicketless but incredibly economic. Elliott, another player who has bowled the best spell I’ve seen from him took one player down. Harry too bowled well at a tough stage of the game. 233 to chase, catches from myself, Robbo, Ethan, Dom and Pete meant everyone was contributing to a top team effort. Could have easily rolled them for sub 150 too!

Our response was not what Sam and I would have wanted, both falling with the score trickling over 30 in the 10th to one of the weaker attacks we’ve faced. However…. Robbo and Pete were both half centurions putting on one shy of a 100 together. Robbo was run out when he forgot to take the trailer off but we were still in with a shout with the run rate hovering at around 7. The skipper bludgeoned a quick fire 18 before he fell, with Harry soon following. 200/6 after 40. Surely we were going to fall short once again…..? And then (Dude where’s my car?) we had Elliott and Ethan dropping the ball for quick singles, placing the ball into zones for easy singles, finding the boundaries and finding the fields beyond the boundaries with very big 6s.

Crunch time 10 to win 6 balls. With Elliot caught on the boundary the tension on the boundary was palpable but the runs were coming. Tim decided to dot one out to keep us hyperventilating. 2 to win on the last ball of the match. Too much ??? Wide leg side ball! Robbo's arms wonderfully spreadeagled, then keeper spills it, Ethan scampers the single. Bedlam on the boundary, fantastic spirit.

Joint MOTM to Elliot and Ethan with Robbo and Pete major match winning contributors too. Bowling was so accurate today I only fielded in 2 positions all day! Absolutely wonderful result, a proper team performance again. Thankyou Dickie again for your diligent scoring. Signing off for the week. ?
