It was a slightly unusual weekend for BLCC, with the 1st XI’s trip to Old Swinford called off on Friday evening due to the wildfires around Stourbridge, with the ground falling within the evacuation zone. The fixture could now potentially be rearranged for Bank Holiday Monday.
There was still plenty of cricket elsewhere, with the 2nd XI producing an excellent 46-run victory over Barnards Green at Bartestree. Runs came throughout the order before Jay and Stan turned the game with the ball and Ben ‘Nobby’ Simpkin finished things off with four wickets.
The 3rd XI travelled to Presteigne, where despite plenty of effort – and apparently plenty of thought about pies and beer – they were beaten by a strong home side. Meanwhile, the Women’s Section enjoyed two excellent games, beating Eastnor by just three runs before pushing league leaders Kington all the way in a narrow seven-run defeat.
There are also two big club dates for the diary. Bartestree Sixes takes place on Sunday 30th August, while our Cricket Presentation Dinner will be held on Friday 9th October at Hereford Rowing Club. More details on the Presentation Dinner, including tickets, will be released later this week.
As always, thank you to everyone who contributes reports, photos and stories. #Upthetree
